Tommy qualified in 2002 from UCD with a degree in veterinary medicine and worked in mixed practice for 16 years. A business owner from 2006-2016, he developed a keen interest in improving animal health and farm systems over this time.
After further study and completion of a 2-year graduate certificate in dairy herd health in UCD in 2013, he then became a master cowsignals trainer in 2015. Added to this, other courses and training taken by Tommy increased his knowledge of mineral nutrition, fertility, mastitis and people performance.
In keeping with his education, training and interests, Tommy went on to develop a range of farm health plans for ruminants, while becoming very active in the animal health training space. He also worked for the Irish Farmers Journal as an animal health specialist for 16 months up to December of 2019.
In 2018 Tommy was awarded an international Nuffield farming scholarship. The topic chosen by him was “A cow-centred approach to a modern dairy industry”. Over the space of two years he visited 16 countries and met with global experts in animal health and nutrition. His studies and meetings in this time brought him to the conclusion that modern agriculture farming systems must optimise the biology of the animals in them.
Tommy is a driven professional with a focus on prevention of disease, improved animal health and performance. Happier, healthier animals, more profitable farmers and happier consumers. He now works with the Agri-industry, vets and farmers in all areas of farm animal health.
